Step-by-Step Application Process

Visit Kenya eVisa portal: evisa.go.ke

Create an account and fill in personal and travel details

Upload passport photo and scanned passport

Upload Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (EAC508 required)

Pay $30 USD by credit/debit card

Receive application reference number

eVisa approved and emailed within 3 business days

Print eVisa and present at Kenyan immigration on arrival

- Kenya eVisa approval letter (printed)
- Original Yellow Fever vaccination certificate (mandatory)

- Safari lodge or hotel booking confirmation
- Proof of sufficient funds (bank statement)
- Travel insurance (recommended for safari travel)
Pro Tips
- Get Yellow Fever vaccine well in advance — do NOT leave it to last minute
- If planning to visit Tanzania or Uganda, get the East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) — much better value
- Apply for eVisa at least 2 weeks before travel even though processing is 3 days
- Maasai Mara safari: July-October is peak migration season — book early
- Nairobi has excellent Indian restaurants in Westlands and Parklands areas
- Uber works in Nairobi — safer than random taxis
- Currency: Kenyan Shilling (KES) — carry USD to exchange; 1 USD ≈ 130 KES
- Visa on arrival is also available at JKIA airport ($51) but eVisa is faster and cheaper
Important Notes
- • Yellow Fever vaccination is MANDATORY for entry to Kenya — no exceptions
- • Get Yellow Fever vaccine at least 10 days before travel (takes time to activate)
- • Yellow Fever certificate must be original (International Certificate of Vaccination card)
- • Single-entry $30 USD visa; East Africa Tourist Visa ($100) allows Uganda and Rwanda too
- • Kenya is world's best safari destination — Maasai Mara wildebeest migration (July-October)
- • Nairobi has a large Indian community — direct flights from Mumbai available
