Visa Details
Indian passport holders are required to obtain an eVisa before traveling to Japan. People residing in India, except those exempted from short-term visas, must apply for a visa at the Japan Visa Application Center (VFS Global) and receive the eVisa instead of a visa sticker on their passport. Residents in Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, UAE, UK, US can also apply for a single entry e-Visa for tourism purposes only and travel to Japan by air. The visa fee is refunded if the visa is rejected. For Indian citizens, the visa fee is INR 510. For transit: no visa needed if transiting via Tokyo Haneda or Osaka Kansai within 72 hours without leaving transit area.

Transit visa exemptions:
Transit visa NOT required if transiting via Tokyo Haneda Airport or Osaka Kansai International Airport, staying within 72 hours, and not leaving the international transit lounge
Transit visa required for most airports, EXCEPT Tokyo Haneda and Osaka Kansai (72h max, airside only). For other airports or to leave transit area, you need a full visa.
